Google Slapdown for Poor Merchant's Landing Page?

Postby cedarberry on Sun Mar 23, 2008 12:38 pm

Hello Loz...just registered for this great forum.

Have purchased AE Elite and am using it, but just got slapped down by Google for what support people said was a poor Merchant's landing page.

Obviously, I cannot change merchant's landing page so what to do since I am linking direct to merchant's site?

On clickbank health/fitness category you'll find the No.1 best selling site fatloss4idiots with new message...acknowledging a nationwide slapdown of it's affiliates.

They are now offering four new landing pages you can add to hoplink.

QUESTION? Do you agree that Google no longer likes linking direct to merchant's site and therefore using one ofthe merchant's new landing pages may not be wise?

LOZ who has the truth? Some say they have linked direct to merchant's site for years no problem. Others say Google will get you sooner or later?

Appreciate your long term wisdom on my tenative plan to get back in action fast. AE Elite shows over 4,600 affiliates selling fatloss4idiots so affiliates and Google are making money.

First, Display URL? Big majority using www.fatloss4idiots and Google as you know only shows highest scoring one, but hate to have to create new website? Explain display url must somehow match destination url? Now about the destination url...somewhere you suggested a 301 redirect...as follows:

<?phpheader("Location:http://www.youraffiliatelink.com"):?>

I really don't know how to fill this in and add clickbank tid and ppc tracking code and maybe merchant's new landing page?

All of this code would make it very long i.e.---http://yourclickbankID.4idiots.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=XXXXX?page=8745 and still have to add ?tc123&gg=your googleID and all this stuffed into a 301 redirect?

Where is the Wizard of OZ when you need him? My apologies for the long post, but there must be thousands in the same ditch dumped there by Google?

Hi ya,

Welcome to the forum. :D

I just edited your page cos I couldn't read it too well with all of your questions on the same line... the enter Key on the keyword works wonders mate. ;)

-------

yeah, I promoted fatloss4idiots too, and found their landing page to be totally crap, so I created my own, still occasionally get 10-20 sales a week, using their page I only made like 1 a week and lost money.

The only time I would do direct linking is if their pages qualify, ie, everything should be in it's proper place, if it's not, then create your own domain, and send the buyer directly to the merchants payment processor website, the buyer will be redirected back to the product site afterwards.

the direct linking stuff you hear about online is a total Myth, it's perfectly fine to direct link, there are a few factors that come into place that people don't take on board first, firstly, if the product you are promoting is the same as the others for the same keyword, you will get slapped.

if you want to add more stuff to the end of the tracking url place an ampersand character at the end followed by the rest of the code you want to be used.

Loz....thanks so much for your quick response. So much to learn and so little time? Your 2/14/08 post on 7 keywords was pure gold. I have learned more from this forum in 2 hours than months on other forums even those connected to a product.

Now back to the abc's...despite being slapped down bigtime I would like to get back in the saddle ASAP. First, get away from merchant's display domain means getting my own website. If I don't then I have to use www.fatloss4idiots.com. Then comes destination url which I would like to cloak using your 301 redirect but need some help on this using your formula.

Is it really possible to put all of the following in destination url? Cloak it plus clickbank hop.link plus clickbank tid, plus
google tracking code ?tc=123&gg=your googleID? Sorry, but as a self taught semi-geek I am getting lost? What comes first the chicken or the egg?

Finally, a new blog landing page would be very fast, but you don't like blog landing pages, right? Starting with my ordinary clickbank hoplink- http://your clickbank ID.4idiots.hop.clickbank.net please connect the other daisy chain elements.

Loz...what about adding onto the www.fatloss4idiots.com/XXXXX to some how make it different?

Sad to say I was making good sales with every keyword OK or Great via direct linking to site. I talked to four or more Google support people about the slap. It was like talking to a recorder same reply message same apology for slapping down my words. But having read your 2/14/08 keywords post I must reduce ads and keywords.

Loz...this is the very best forum on the internet. Nothing else comes close. Thanks again.

I would strongly advise not to use their domain name, if you do, it's ok, but you need to make sure of two things. the keywords that you are bidding on are not the same ones they are, and also the ones that they aren't using, no one else is using the same keywords for the same product, regardless if it's direct linking or a personal domain selling their product. And make sure your keyword campaigns are correctly grouped up.

Yup, using the ampersand character, then the site/landing page needs to use software to extract the extra variables, presumably google analytics does this; which I can't comment much on cos I don't use it, I use Jeremy Palmer's Optimize my site software, only available to ppcclassroom members.

I don't like blogs period to be honest, never found them to convert very well, I only use them to jot down my notes on stuff I think can widely help people, ie, on my SEO Revolution Blog.

In regards to your other question, what other daisy chain stuff you referring to, sorry, ya lost me a bit there.

wouldn't make much difference mate, still the same top level domain name.

yeah, I hate their standard replies, google sucks, the only place that beats yahoo and google hands down is msn in customer support.
