Web Site Linking Strategies

Hey all,

Web Site Linking Strategies

There's many ways you can go about this.

  1. One-way Back Linking
  2. Two-Way Back Linking; also known as reciprocal linking
  3. Three Way Back Linking; also known as triangular linking

One Way Back Linking

This is the far best method, ignore what you have heard before about reciprocal linking. A lot of it is misunderstood.

Let's look at it this way; especially with Google, as you can probably tell that Google is one of the hardest ones to rank in - personally I do not find it a problem, MSN and Yahoo I have a little bit of a tough time with to get the results as quickly as I do with Google.
Any way, Google is forever trying to work out a way to stop the manipulators out there, and one of the ways is to not give reciprocal linking that much power. It's very easy for Google to stop the cheating in this regard.
One way Back Linking isn't, there are too many variables to consider that even the top 50 or so hired Phd Google staff that can not work out.

Stick with this method always where possible.

Ways to get One way Back links.

  1. Article Directories
  2. Link Directories
  3. Forums
  4. Blogs
  5. Yahoo, Google, MSN Groups and Many a like
  6. Myspace
  7. Squidoo
  8. Free Web site hosts, like zendurl dot com
  9. Press Releases

And that's just some of the ways.

Two-Way Back Linking; also known as reciprocal linking

I'm sure to all those who are starting out in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) that one feels that this is what we should do.
Ok, sure, it doesn't hurt, but it's very time consuming and your ranking results can be hurt by this. For instance, I'm sure you've had to check your back link results of those you sought reciprocal linking from right? And got really ticked off when they removed your link or you can't find the link when they say they have added it to their web site.

These are the main problems of why many people do not rank well for a keyword, some call Google "GoOfy" because one minute you're ranking highly for a keyword, then the next you're no where to be found or you've dropped a few spots or lost your page 1 ranking. One of the main reasons here is that Google and other search engines are continuously updating their cached servers for new and updated content. The chances are that your link on a site no longer is there, or other web sites out there have more links than you or their on-page optimization is far much better than yours. Or worst they have more related links on other people's sites than you do.

But there are ways to get around this and that's by setting up your very own linking network where all your domains are on unique IP addresses

Three Way Back Linking; also known as triangular linking

Really no different from One Way Back Linking, except that you have to find these people that will perform one of these.
3 way back linking is really where Site A links to Site B, and Site B links to Site C. You need to be careful here that the IP address on any of these sites are all different, if they're not, the search engines will pick this up and penalize you in the sense that you will not get the keyword weight you are looking for.

This method is also time consuming just like that of reciprocal linking. When you're doing Search Engine Optimization you want to minimize your time 100 fold right? You don't want to check to see if these sites are still got your links on them. I will assure you that most of these places will end up taking your link off their site, while your Site A, or B or C still has a link of theirs on it.

One possible way to ensure, or probably ensure that this link stays on their site is by swapping articles. The benefit of this is they get more content, so you do, and should they have Google Adsense Ads on their pages chances are they are going to make money from your article as well.

Hi Loz or anyone, I have a question regarding backlinks. The first is when I use the backlink tool (google toolbar) it indicates I have no backlinks? When I post to forums such as this and submit my articles to directories isn't that considered a backlink? Also I notice there are pages indexed for domain www.healthe-minds.com that aren't any of my pages nor do the links work when clicked you get error message. So why are they there or how should I say? Thanks

Hi Krista,

To be honest, I don't think anyone knows the answer to this because I have been searching for this answer for nearly a year now. Even the TOP SEO Experts do not have an answer.

It's my view that ONLY authority sites are shown up when one does a back link from another site. However, the back links still count but aren't given as much weight as those already on authority sites.

If you type in the backlink code: link:
then a space then the start of your domain you'll see ALL the links that google knows about - and these give even more results back.

Authority sites are ones with high alexa rank and high, or somewhat high PR's/established sites (that have many back links). I ran a check on Brads site and I see my link showing up when the normal link:www.somedomain.com is typed in the search engine. I can't really call my site an authority site yet, since it's only a PR3, and just recently I've moved up to 100,418 alexa rank.
I'm wondering if this is because a) I have a link on his forum. b) my alexa rank is high enough. c) my page rank is high enough, d) the site continuously has pages added to the site, or all of the above. But strangely enough, when I run a link check for my site I do not see Brad's site show up, but only show up when I put a space in between the colon. And this makes me question what I really think is happening.

I think it's also important to link to the page in some way or another (not necessarily from your site, but from somewhere else so the page your link is on is always a one way back link) where your back link is to give that page a vote. I've not actually tried this because this is a question I have raised to myself as well.

When I have the time I'm going to run an experiment on this, because to be honest, it's doing my head in.

I think this question should be asked at Matt Cutts Blog - I might actually do this to see if he can give us an answer without breaking the NDA he's under with google.

Thanks Loz, Hmmm When I did what you suggested with the links: 403 results came back? very strange indeed because some of the results for my website don't exist. So are you saying also that the #403 that google results showed are considered 403 backlinks? (even though they don't exist) I mean I will take them if they help my site but as you I can't figure that one out. Well count me in on the experiment!! lol Also I am still interested in the network program you have going. I've been quite busy with the kids lately- BUT BACK TO SCHOOL SOON1! lol I have my headset so if I see you are online I'll give you a buzz.
As always thank you!!

Hi Krista,

I've spoken to a few SEO Experts since my reply to you.

Some say that no matter what links you have, they count - however, it's a "Google Link Game", meaning, they will ONLY show the sites they wish to show at the time when typing in the SE Function: link:www.yourdomain.com where one minute they show the high PR's, the other the High Alexa Ranks, or a mixture of both "DEPENDING" on the site who is "MOST" active.

As you are aware; Google "especially" are focused on new content and sites that deliver "good" and "unique" content on a "CONSTANT" basis.

Does this mean that those that make sites who do not create pages all the time wont get ranked? Well, yes and no. Those who produce content on a regular basis is more likely to be considered as an "ACTIVE" web site. AND this is what "Google" wants to see. They are not "really interested in sites that are left abandoned". But they will index them and rank them ONLY "according to the content - back links will not necessarily count, UNTIL the page is being VOTED on a regular basis". To come to think about this... THIS is where our "SEO CLUSTER NETWORK GROUP" comes into play, we are actively creating content AND creating back links to relevant sources and those relevant sources are linking back to another source within our Network.

In short, it' keeps our site "ACTIVE", more active it becomes, the more relevant the link:www.somedomain.com shows sites, thus, gives the link it is linking from, "MORE WEIGHT", higher the weight, higher the ranking you go in the SE's ;)

I'm not sure what you mean by sites not existing, are you referring to the site itself, or the link on the site.

if it's the latter, it's someone using "blackhat" techniques. I've had a few sites doing that to mine.(Google knows about these sites and they will ban them accordingly)
If it's the other where the site doesn't load, that is due to Google not updating the site in question fast enough.

P.S
On a personal note:

I feel ya, I bet it will be a great relief when they go back to school, it's an amazement how any one can concentrate on stuff when Schools out on Holiday Breaks....lol

Hello Loz,

I was wondering how you get your domain names on different IPs. Is this by having more than one host? :|

Hi KDpem,

Welcome to the forum.

Usually your host will give you a unique IP address, you just need to ask them. ;)

Ok Loz,
You are saying you can get more than one IP from your host, right? You posted on PPCClassroom some of your statagies for SEO. My next question is do you have an E-book out that goes into much detail that can be followed in steps. I figure that is what this forum is supposed to do but hunting for the info and following it while not in front of the puter is harder than printing out a list and following it in the course of a days work. I would like to keep my learning in one field and my work in another if I can. Not only that free is nice but suporting an effort is fine too.

Hi

Yup, from your host. If they don't allow it, move to a different host who does. www.sparkhosting.com does. Friend of mine.

There's not that many posts on this forum mate to locate the SEO Tips, etc, so it shouldn't be much of a prob - their basic tips that should get you off to a good start.

Sorry, I don't have a SEO Ebook as of yet - I had started on one, but never got around to finishing it, but I am working on a Video Training series as mentioned on the PPC Classroom forum and will probably throw in the ebook on top too.

Hi Loz

I read some of your postings on SEO Elite, saw that you have a link product launching soon, which I would love to know more about when it launches.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me with your valuable advice

Currently we have submitted our site to a directories, blogs, forums and yet we cannot compete with the number of links that come from the footer of all our clients websites. We have chosen not to buy or exchange links for our company domains, www.netage.co.za & www.seoresults.co.za

When using SEO Elite it says that 64% of netage.co.za 305 links are from our clients pages(our IP address) and we have 1000's of pages planned for 2008.

I know that this has an effect.

What would your recommend that we do.

Have an exSEOllent day
