My sites are jumping about the rankings..

Postby AndyBlack on Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:28 am

Hi people,

First of all i'd like to say hi to everyone. This is my first post in Loz's forum.

Just wanted a bit of advice. I have been submitting a few articles recently, in a consistant fashion. I have also been finding related blogs and posting non-spammy comments in those too, using my keywords, and slight variations of those keywords. One of my sites goes from page 5 to page 3 to page 5 to page 7 to page 3 and to today it's on page 8 or 9?! can't remember which one.

Is this likely to settle? and preferable on a top page? My onpage link density if ok, I have loads more links than those even on page two, and I have now got quite a few links now which have my keywords / phrases in the header title etc.

Also, when submitting articles for one of my sites, how often should I change the phrases for the anchor text.. and how should I do this?

say I have submitted a few different articles with say 'promotional products', should I then change it to something like 'quality promotional products' or should it be something like 'business gifts', or 'promotional gifts'?

Last time I read much about this side of things was a while ago so I don't know what is the best way to do this now.

One of my other sites is stuck at the top of page 2, but think that has just dropped a place, yet I have been submitting one way links in different places. Any reason why, or should it resolve itself if I just keep on submitting articles etc.

Any advice will be appreciated! :)

Thanks

Andy

Hey Andy, good to see ya. :)

I wouldn't worry about it, it's apart of Google's shuffling index, that's what I like to call it. I had the same happen to me for "Video Guide To Profits", I was at the top, then no where to be seen. But now I rank 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th for that term. All I did was just to make sure that the links that I was getting, the content was regular that contained my links. Eventually google decided that my page was highly relevant.

Article directories shouldn't be your main source of getting links, try blogs too. Buy more domains that are related to the niche you're in. You're competitive against a highly competitive term, so it's going to take a while before you really get at the top for those phrases. I would also take into consideration what type of words you are using in your body text for your article, although google doesn't use LSI to determine where you rank, it does use it to find out what the page is about, and if it contains any text that is related to the page you are wanting to rank, professional terms and what have you. ie, does the article just talk about promotional gifts, or does it talk about it in greater detail using other vernacular, and are there other links on the page that point to another that is also similar, and so on.

Also are the articles you submitted indexed? Are you linking back from one article you posted to another article to create a theme related structure. If not, that's what you should also be doing, it increases the weight of the article as it improves user experience, think wiki-pedia and how they have their site laid out, ie, the links pointing to other articles.

You also gotta remember, google's indexing thousands of pages a day, each page goes through the same process as yours, new pages get a higher priority for SERP placement than old ones, but eventually the new pages will end up falling it its rightful position based on relevancy and links pointing to it and in which fashion.

The keywords you are using as your anchor text, don't use the same ones, use long tailed keywords too that contain your main keyword, mix it up some. :)

Hi Loz,

Thanksa for the info. I do submit to blogs to, using the fast blog finder software I just bought. I am mixing my keywords up a little. The articles include my phrase in the tiel, then a few times in the body. I try and write about related topics as I run out of ideas, but write the last paragraph myself which will all be about promotional products, or clip in hair extensions, depending which site I am working on.

Here is an article I wrote using IAW and just wrote the last paragraph myself. Am I on the write path here.........

http://ezinearticles.com/?Body-Piercing-And-Clip-In-Hair-Extensions&id=925513

Obviously you don't have to read it all, it is just to show my anchor links and title. This is how I have been doing my articles... sometimes I may use 'human clip in hair extensions' instead of just 'clip in hair extensions' for my anchor text. With the blogging, I vary my anchor texts a bit more. So, what your saying is for some of my articles I should use one of the links for pointing to another related, indexed article I submitted previously. I have done this with one of my articles already but will do it more often if it will help me more.

Thanks for your advice!

Ya, but in all honesty, the fast blog finder, although as neat as the idea is, it's not giving "YOU" the "POWER" of what links you can put in the "TEXT".

Take a look at "Video Guide To Profits", run that through google, then take a look at the blog I wrote on, that's what I mean. :)

Re: Ezine articles, I didn't know you could put links in side the body text... hmm.

Hi,

Right, the last couple of days, one of my websites is ranked on page 2 on my PC and on page 10, for the index page, on my imac?!?

This is on Google for both?!! Any ideas why two computers in the same office, on the same network is showing results with 9 pages differene for the same page?

The site in question is http://www.pps-ltd.co.uk

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks

strange, are they on a different IP network? I'm not too familiar with iMacs to be honest so I can't really comment on that.

No, same IP network. Also, one of the PC's shows say a page 15 ranking, and the PC next to it shown a page 2 ?? That's odd aint it.

Yeah, with Ezinearticles.com you can include upto 3 links, but with the body text you can't put the links in the first three paragraphs. I usually write four paragraphs and stick them in the fourth.

Loz, with article post robot it recommends not to put any links or html in the article content iteself. I have put a link in the description/teaser section, and also in the resource box section. Should I only put links in the resource section?? I haven't had time to look at WCW yet but Article Post Robot is brilliant. Gonna watch more of your videos soon.

Thanks

Ya, the only reason for that is, most article directories do not allow html anchor text links in the body. Hence the bio section to do it in.

I tell you what... I'll start setting up each of the video guide to profit members to join my article directory... there are some members there that don't post any more or haven't posted for a while, so I'll re-edit their username and you can put as many links in there as you want... it's a $50.00 per year subscription and every month I blast out the rss feeds that your articles are in to rss feed directories. :)

I'll send out an update over the weekend about it. :)

Ok nice one Loz. I haven't watched your RSS video yet so i'm not that clued up with RSS. Loz, how many folders are in your video huide to profits download. When I unzipped the file, it is 14. Is this correct?

Also, the 30daytag site doesn't seem to work for me. No matter what fields I complete, which was all of them, it doesn't seem to recognise that I have inoutted the data. I'll have to leave that one and have a look at the others. Must be a glitch somewhere.

How do I send a pm on this forum :?

Thanks

Hey Andy

Nope, there's about 28 now, login to the members area, download the video template, then add the videos in that folder, you'll then have a members area kinda webpage sitting on your hard drive that shows the full index of the videos. :)

I've got 3 more to upload, so that's 31... :)

To send a PM, look to your right, see the word. PM. :) click that. :)

I'm not sure what you're referring to in regards to 30daytag... seems to work ok for me.
