I want to optimize the articles to use some internal linking structure. Do have relevant keywords point to the homepage, Blog or Sitemap?

That choice is really up to you, but if it were me, I'd link some articles up to other articles, the more you have the higher you will rank. I'd also share the linking to the home page and the home page of the blog.
