I have a question regarding the nofollow tag.

I know that links are a VERY important factor when trying to rank well for Google. If i have links on websites that use the nofollow tag for my link, is that link doing anything to help my rankings? Does the nofollow tag only prevent the pagerank from leaking onto the link, or will the link have no value in helping my ranking too?

I know that pagerank really does not have to do with your ranking, but will the nofollow tag affect your ranking or only pagerank? What i am trying to figure out is, is it completely useless for search engine rankings to have a link on a website that uses a nofollow tag?

yes, it can still help - not a lot though, a pr value will not be assigned to it at the end of the day. But i would still concentrate on getting links with the sites that don't have the nofollow attribute.
