bottom line is, you should never use adwords to point to a page that has adsense on it, google will slap you big time.
i didn't read michael plants ebook, so I'm not sure if he did use google, i think brad callen said he had done when I emailed him a long time ago about it.
any ways, just make sure that it's not the amount of traffic you can deliver to your page, do not get into the mentality that more PPC driven visits means more clicks, cos it doesn't, quality visits means more clicks, these quality visits lead to sales after the ad has been clicked on, OR that the visitor has clicked off the landing page from the google ad.. ie.
visitor clicks google ad, lands on advertisers page, then clicks off the landing page onto ANOTHER page of the advertisers page... you will notice that some people's sites will leave the google ad code in the address bar, google uses this to see if the visitor goes to another part of the page or if they click off it completely by closing their browser, the ip address and cookies are then tracked, so if the user comes back to your site again and clicks on another advert, or goes to google search engine to find another service / product to look at, google determines whether the click was of bad quality from your page, to the advertisers, and or adjusts how much the advertiser pays based on how long the visitor stayed on that site, or whether that visitor did actually find what they were looking for, generally the cycle goes once you found the information you're looking for the searching stops, and visa versa.
