What position should I aim for?

Postby Duane on Fri Mar 07, 2008 11:50 am

Hey Loz,

Regarding PPC campaigns, I've heard that you shouldn't aim for the 1-3 positions on the page since it's more expensive and doesn't offer much more QUALITY traffic than you would get in positions 4-6... that is as long as your QS% is high.

What say you?

ads in position 1 - 3 are more likely to be clicked on by click happy trigger people that can drive your costs up. however, if you have a high CTR, the price you pay will be less any way. All niches are different, so it's a matter of split testing. And nope, it's not more expensive to be in position 1 - 3, on the contrary, what you pay is determined by your CTR, you can still pay way less than other people and still be in position 1.

However, I think the idea is that with a high CTR you could lower your bid amount which would lower your ad position but not see a significant decrease in Quality Clicks.

Would you agree?

nope, I've already mentioned this before Duane.

Lowering your cost bid doesn't necessarily mean you get your ad positioned in the lower part of the page. more clicks your ad gets, google is going to show those more often.
