This might be slightly off-topic but I would like to know your comments on having Google adsense ads on a homepage that is a shopping cart. My site is: www.maceddy.com and unless I'm imagining it, it seems that since I started using the ads that people spend less time on the website and they also purchase less items. I'm not certain that the revenue made from the ads (around $50 or so, third month using it) is worth it. Also, in SEO terms, does using adsense affect how one's site is perceived?

It seems to me that with all the hoopla this week with Google stock and how valuable the clicks are, etc., I would appreciate your take on the entire subject and its value (other than a few bucks earned) to a website.

Another question re: meta tags. I noticed on one of your sites you had a line like this:

<meta name="search engines" content="Aeiwi, Alexa, AllTheWeb, AltaVista, AOL Netfind, Anzwers, Canada, DirectHit, EuroSeek, Excite, Overture, Go, Google, HotBot. InfoMak, Kanoodle, Lycos, MasterSite, National Directory, Northern Light, SearchIt, SimpleSearch, WebsMostLinked, WebTop, What-U-Seek, AOL, Yahoo, WebCrawler, Infoseek, Excite, Magellan, LookSmart, Googlebot" />

Does that make sure that you get listed by more search engines as opposed to just having it set up for robots...and can you write an article about 1) what order all the meta tag codes should be for best performance on a webpage, 2) how do you set up a search engine meta tag like you have that will get everyone crawling your site and 3) how frequently can these engines crawl the site? And how do you code that so that it happens?

NOt too sure where this will fit in - but the point is should you submit your sites to the se's or not to submit and wait for them to crawl your site on their own ? I heard a few different opinions and wasnt sure which is the best option - i personally do not submit but... not sure if i should be ?? K

Doublk, yes, guess that was one thing that was asking, you sorta consolidated it! I did wonder whether putting all those search engines in meta tags was better or worse, and does it stop other search engines from visiting, or what?

Re: google adsense, I meant to say that there's been a lot of press this week about how the adsense ads aren't necessarily successful and so I wonder what having them on the homepage does, in terms of affecting SEO. I thought it might help as it is google...and they might tend to favor a site that uses their ads, but not sure.

Simply paste the code into your websites header tags, and it will tell those search engines to crawl your page. The order in which they are made doesn't matter. how frequently they visit depends on how many links you have out there.

in regards to adsense, no, having adsense on your website doesn't influence where you rank, it used to a long time ago, same too when one used adwords, but not any more.

Who ever is saying that adsense ads aren't very successful, doesn't really know what they are talking about.

You can also do it like this and is the same thing:
