Hi Curt, welcome to the forum,
Ok, to answer your question, nope. It's best not to over do it by repeating the same word many times.
Dog is a very, very competitive term, and in all honesty, you're wasting your time.
I'd do something like;
K9, Dog food for a Man's best friend. Treat Your Pet Dog as you would yourself.
Noticed I've added a rather catchy title line there, which is good for the reader.
K9 | Dog Food | Pet Dog
doesn't really appeal to me as a visitor, it's not telling me much.
You can use pipe lines, or commas to separate your keyword phrases, but I will let you in on something. Contrary to what we have all heard, it makes no difference at all in Google if you use a pipeline | or a comma , or a dash -.
The only place that I have seen that makes these differences is Yahoo, Yahoo tends to like sentences as a title, MSN somewhat leans towards this method too. Google, it really doesn't matter.
Google takes in to account of how many times the search phrase is mentioned in the title tag, description area (or within the body if you're not using a description meta tag), and the page URL.
By doing it this way, you will get the best of all worlds, Google, Yahoo and MSN (and some others).
In our title tag we have made it very clear that our page is about Pets/Dogs. K9 is related, "A Mans best friend" is a related term people associate with Pet Dogs.
this increases the overall weight assigned to K9, Pet Dog, even "A Man's Best Friend" search phrase.
All you need to do now is ensure that your page is well documented with those phrases in your own words. While trying to make sure that you use the correct sized H1 tags, and placing your Keywords at the beginning of each new sentence of each paragraph, or scattered evenly through out, while in some cases making bold of the words, italic some as well, and perhaps even underline some others, while linking up some of these keywords within the body of your article to other inner pages to create a semantically related theme structure within your site, as you start to build more links and rank for these phrases, you'll see some of your other pages have a position 1 & 2, with the second being indented from the first.
Hope this helps.
